![]() ![]() “He’s a talented player,” Rodgers said of Bryant. While Bryant isn't the Pro Bowl-type player he was earlier this decade, he did catch 69 passes and averaged 12.1 yards per reception last year. One reason is that Nelson lost his legs in 2017 and averaged a pedestrian 2.30 yards after the catch. “I don’t know why you’d cut Jordy and bring in Dez,” Rodgers told reporters. Rodgers was asked Tuesday about Green Bay potentially signing Bryant. The Packers could use another veteran receiver and have been linked to former Dallas standout Dez Bryant in recent weeks. But Nelson fell off the grid in 2017 when he had 53 receptions and six touchdowns and averaged a career-low 9.1 yards per catch. Nelson played 10 years with Rodgers and finishes third in franchise history in receptions (550), fifth in receiving yards (7,848) and second in touchdowns (69). There will never be another quite like white lightning.” Definitely a sad day and the toughest part of this business. From living in GB full time, his incredible contributions to the city, state, and region, to his consistent, reliable play on the field. No teammate exemplified what it means to be a Packer quite like him. He took to social media and wrote: “Hard to find the right words today to express what 87 means to me. Rodgers was saddened after the Packers released Nelson in March. At some time I’m sure it will be addressed, but for the time being, the guys we have here are the guys who have to hold up their end of the bargain.” “Sometimes I’m sure it doesn’t work out the way in which (the front office wants), and obviously they only get so many picks and only have so much cap money to spend. “You can look a couple years ago when we had Mike Neal and Julius (Peppers) here, Datone (Jones) as well. “You look around the league, a lot of times they’re rotating in pass rushers,” Matthews told reporters. He’s worked through so much to get to this point – and he deserves all the credit in the world for that.Despite a glaring lack of depth behind Matthews and Perry, the only outside linebacker Gutekunst selected was Kendall Donnerson of Southeast Missouri State in the seventh round. I can’t really think of a player more deserving. Teams like the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams are all looking for more talent at quarterback – so Hill will have plenty of options.Īnd really, good for him. Plus, if the Packers do cut Hill, they’ll surely lose him. In fact, in seven preseason drives Hill’s led, the Packers have scored 24 points.Īaron Rodgers is a durable quarterback, so even though most teams carry three quarterbacks, Green Bay might opt to just keep Rodgers and second-string QB Brett Hundley.īut, if the Packers want to keep three quarterbacks, it seems like Hill is head and shoulders above Joe Callahan. He’s shown the game isn’t too fast for him, he’s shown that healthy isn’t a concern and he’s led scoring drives when in the game. It may be too soon to say, but I’m not sure there’s much more he can do. Taysom Hill just keeps getting better, and better, and better. He completed 4-of-5 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown, then added two carries for 14 yards. While he had ditched the blue and white of BYU football for the green and yellow of the Packers, he was still doing Taysom things. This was the first time Hill competed in a game since the aforementioned contest with Utah State last November. ![]() The good news for Hill is he certainly passed the eye test. So stats might get skewed if a player is competing against a second or third team defense (or offense). Teams are playing guys who are striving to earn a spot on a 53-man roster. When looking at the NFL preseason, it isn’t as helpful to look at the box score as it is to give players the “eye test.” And throughout the preseason, he’s made play after play for the Packers. Then he signed with the Green Bay Packers. He put up some eye-popping numbers, but he was still a longshot to make it in the NFL. Instead, he worked to get healthy and competed at BYU football’s NFL Pro Day. So no one would have blamed him if he hung up his cleats after he ran his final play on Novemagainst Utah State.īut he didn’t. Taysom Hill left BYU football with a legacy of explosive plays and “what might have beens.” He was unquestionably one of the best athletes to ever come through Provo, but he was unfortunately derailed by injuries for most of his career. Now, with his slate of preseason games over, what are his odds of making the roster? By Nathan Cunningham 5 years ago BYU football legend Taysom Hill signed with the Green Bay Packers after the NFL Draft. ![]()
